David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants are simply not big enough to contain an ass like him. Today he “apologized” to the Palins, Sarah and Willow. If you can call this self-serving spew an apology:
“We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter [Bristol]… and now they’re upset with me,” Letterman said. “These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl.
But if the girl in question is a few years – and only a very few years – older, she’s fair game, eh, Dave?
Misogyny is perfectly cool with “funny man” Dave so long as the girl in question is past the age of statutory rape.
Rape is funny, too, so long as the girl is of age, eh, Dave? You must be the funniest pervert on your block.
Think bigger pants, Dave. You’re up to interplanetary size now.
Over at Memeorandum, the only lefty blogs that are posting – very few – are all defending Letterman. They completely fail to get what is wrong about either Palin child being the target of an old, nasty piece of work like Letterman. Particularly stupid is Jason Zengerle’s attempt at equivalence to say a Letterman “joke” about Al Gore’s son getting a speeding ticket is just like a “joke” about raping or “knocking up” young women – underage or not. Because – ha, ha, ha – Bristol deserves it.
Wow. There is a vast amount of slime under this particular rock.
UPDATE: Victor Davis Hanson, also casually slurred by Zengerle, points out that Letterman is a boor and a coward:
The self-serving, creepy apology was as bad as the initial slur. Letterman is emblematic of an aging, baby-boomer culture, that dresses up street vulgarity with a tie and coat. The only thing that saves him is his care to do this with the Palins from Alaska who don’t figure into the usual no-go race/class/gender paradigm.
Letterman, like many on the left, have no qualms about attacking women with the worst sort of vicious slime as long as they can get away with it. Because they – ha, ha, ha – deserve it. Think this is “cutting edge” humor, Dave and friends? Why don’t you try telling your “joke” to the face of the parents of the child you are slamming.
But Davey would “never, never” have the nerve to do that. Hanson has him pegged.
I think you missed the mosy obvious point here. It’s okay because the targets of the ‘joke’ are nasty Republican conservatives. I guarantee you that Letterman would NEVER make a similar joke about the daughter of a liberal Democrat or even a conservative Democrat. And ther lefty blogs are defending him for the same reason.
