(C) Obama offered Muslims a careful admonition about women’s rights, noting how denying women education impoverishes a country — balanced, of course, with this: “Issues of women’s equality are by no means simply an issue for Islam.” Example? “The struggle for women’s equality continues in many aspects of American life.”
Well, yes. On the one hand, there certainly is some American university where the women’s softball team has received insufficient Title IX funds — while, on the other hand, Saudi women showing ankle are beaten in the street, Afghan school girls have acid thrown in their faces, and Iranian women are publicly stoned to death for adultery. (Gays, as well — but then again we have Prop 8.) We all have our shortcomings, our national foibles. Who’s to judge?
That’s the problem with Obama’s transcultural evenhandedness. It gives the veneer of professorial sophistication to the most simple-minded observation: Of course there are rights and wrongs in all human affairs. Our species is a fallen one. But that doesn’t mean that these rights and wrongs are of equal weight.
No, there is a huge difference in the weight of some wrongs. There is no equivalence, just a disturbing ambivalence. Go read the whole thing.
Democrats don’t seem to understand that most of the world is laughing. Muslim extremists have no intention of empowering women or joining the world community by changing their behavior.
Read the entire transcript of Obama’s speech. If you look beyond the flowery rhetoric and read the actaul meaning, the speech is blatantly anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian (and I’m not even a Christian) and pro-Islam. He trashed Israel while fawning over Muslim nations (I’m not Jewish either). He trashed his own country in several ascpects. And people STILL let him get away with this. Is there something about some quality of his voice that mesmerizes the majority of the human race? Are there only a few of us who are immune (his voice and speaking style just annoy me)? He keeps getting away with saying some of the most outrageous things and people still worship the ground he walks on and the air he breathes. It simply amazes me.
Sadly, martian is correct. Krauthammer has nailed a lot of these things, including Obama’s claim that American Muslims should be allowed to fund organizations that enable terror against Jews because it is a “religious obligation” for Muslims to do that.
