This one surprises me. A tiny little blurb in what is largely a puff piece about Obama’s performance in Montana yesterday indicates that ObamaCare is in real trouble. It seems that none other than John Murtha is signaling that this mess won’t pass for a long, long time – if ever.
However, an influential Democratic representative said the House would only pass a health care bill in January or later, signaling continuing rifts within Obama’s party on his domestic priority for 2009.
“We’re taking some time to make sure it’s done right,” said Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania. “I don’t know that we’ll get something done before January, and even then we may not get it done. We’re going to do it right when it’s finally done.”
It is absolutely the wrong time to declare victory on this. The pressure must continue until the entire idea is abandoned. I would speculate that Murtha’s announcement is meant to divert attention and relieve the pressure Democrats are feeling from their constituents. But that pressure – that opposition to government controlled health care, must continue.
Don’t give them any breathing room on this. Keep asking the tough questions and keep making it plain that there will be electoral consequences for a yes vote on ObamaCare.
