When Democrats Cower

There appear to be some folks willing to step right up and fill in for the missing Congresswoman. Democrat Gabrielle Giffords represents the Arizona 8th district. She had scheduled a town hall, then canceled it at the last minute. Enter her challenger for the 2010 election, Republican Jesse Kelly. Former Marine, current businessman and not at all afraid to face the voters.

Rep. Giffords canceled her town hall in Sahuarita/Green Valley and Jesse Kelly scheduled an appearance in the same venue at the same time and place. From the looks of the video below it was very successful. Both sides were allowed to speak for two hours and with no problems. You would think that a 2 term congresswoman could manage to put on a town hall during the one month August recess.

Please go over and see the video. There are a couple of – less than true – challenges from the audience and Kelly answers them handily. Funny thing, the meeting went just fine with no disruptions. Actually answering rather than spouting canned talking points appears to defuse tensions rapidly.

There is not a word of explanation on Giffords’ website as to why she canceled the town hall. Maybe she had a good reason for it, but it sure looks like hiding from the voters, especially since there is not even an attempt to explain it away or an effort to reschedule it.
