Talk about naked intimidation.
House Democrats are probing the nation’s largest insurance companies for lavish spending, demanding reams of compensation data and schedules of retreats and conferences.
Letters sent to 52 insurance companies by Democratic leaders demand extensive documents for an examination of ‘extensive compensation and other business practices in the health insurance industry.” The letters set a deadline of Sept. 14 for the documents.
Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, signed the three-page letter dated Monday.
I rather doubt that Waxman has the authority to demand such documentation or he would have issued subpoenas rather than letters. Just a guess. Regardless, his goal is rather obvious – he’s strong arming companies into rolling over and going silent if they oppose his schemes.
Do you really want people like these deciding on what health care you are going to be allowed to have? This kind of vindictiveness is not what I want in a health care plan.

But the “public option” would be peopled with AFSCME, would it not?
Those union folks don’t come cheap!
We need both Federal Govt reform, and voter reform, where you must own property to vote!
We need accountability, and we need it now!
Okay, I’m through.
It’s time to have a Special Prosecutor investigate Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Waxman. Let’s see how they like it.
Where’s Fitz when you need him ?
It is time to raise hell! Contact your congressman and senator and tell them to stop this effort to demonize the insurance companies like this administration and congress have already demonized banks and other financial companies, profits (God forbid anybody should make a profit), etc.
I rather doubt that these demands are even legal. What standing does Wakman have to demand private, proprietary financial information from a private company that is not receiving money from the federal government and has not even been accused of any crimes? If I were an executive from one of the PRIVATE Health Insurance companies targeted with this letter, the only response Waxman would receive would be a letter from my lawyers that politely tells him to stick his letter where the sun don’t shine.
