Real people – not thugs or paid to appear rent-a-crowds – just showing up to protest. Not the stage-managed protests of the left. Ordinary people showed up at the offices of their elected representatives, peacefully gathering to oppose the intrusion of the government into their lives. Glenn Reynolds has pictures.
The Blogprof has more – from a large turnout in Birmingham, Mi. Yes, 1,000+ protesters is only a fraction of a fraction of the population of the US.
But they showed up on a weekend, taking time from their precious leisure time to let the government know that they are against what is being done in Washington right now.
They showed up on their own. They were not brought in by bus, they were not “managed” by professional “community organizers”.
As I pointed out earlier, the left has no idea how to deal with genuine protests.
But they ignore them – or continue their increasingly deranged attacks against them – at their own political peril. Pay attention, Congress. This is real, it is serious and you will have need of an updated resume if you dismiss it.

Obviously they are Nazis. Nancy Pelosi says so. So there.
On my blog I wrote about this event to. One thing I don’t understand are accusations of ‘astroturfing’. The Detroit News article about the event said it was organized by some group that I had never even heard of (and I was there). I heard about it from emails from friends. This is grassroots, people, more so than the Moveon.org protests of the early 2000′s that so many liberals pretended were legitimate. This isn’t Code Pink people- this is average, taxpaying, decent people gathering together to protest the unconstitutional expansion of government. Check out my blog post for more of my thoughts about this event.
