No More Treacherous Friend

Really, this one should appall even the left in this country as much as it should appall the right. The President of the United States should stand for freedom – that is, after all, who we are as a nation – or at least what our ultimate ideal has been and should be. America has to stand for freedom – it is why we came to be in the first place.

Enter Barack Obama:

President Barack Obama has refused to meet the Dalai Lama in Washington this week in a move to curry favour with the Chinese.

The decision came after China stepped up a campaign urging nations to shun the Tibetan spiritual leader.

It means Mr Obama will become the first president not to welcome the Nobel peace prize winner to the White House since the Dalai Lama began visiting Washington in 1991.

The Buddhist monk arrived in Washington on Monday for a week of meetings with Congressional leaders, celebrity supporters and interest groups, but the president will not see him until after he has made his first visit to China next month.

Samdhong Rinpoche, the Tibetan prime minister-in-exile, has accused the United States and other Western nations of “appeasement” toward China as its economic weight grows.

“Today, economic interests are much greater than other interests,” he said.

Mr Obama’s decision dismayed human rights and Tibetan support groups, who said he had made an unnecessary concession to the Chinese, who regard the Dalai Lama as a “splittist”, despite his calls for autonomy rather than independence for Tibet. The Chinese invaded in 1950, forcing the young leader to flee.

How to put my reaction as succinctly as possible? Let me think.

Yuck.

What a slimy, spineless , move by a president of this nation. Regardless of your political bent (aside from mindless sycophants of the won) this should disgust you. This is most definitely not what America stands for.

One man I work with routinely calls Obama our very own Chamberlain. I can see where he’s coming from.

Obama has made a habit out of apologizing for America, befriending authoritarian thugs and insulting democratic allies. At some point, our friends in the world will begin to wonder how good an idea it is to be our friend.

Unfortunately, our enemies already know.

“Yuck” is the best word you could come up with? You can’t publish what I think of this low life Chicago crook.

Yeah, sometimes my own comment policy constrains me too much.

Self-centered, worthless maggot comes to mind. From the bozo, gaffe-o-matic joe **, on down, maggots each and everyone.

EDIT: You should know the policy by now.

I think the Chamberlain comparision is unfair. Misguided and idealistic though he might have been, I am guessing Neville Chamberlain cared about and wanted the best for Great Britain.

Wonder if the lefties will start removing their ‘Free Tibet’ bumper stickers? There was a Weekly Standard piece the other day reporting that BHO is leading the charge to restrict free speech at the UN. It would be in character for him to do this.

I also see the Boston Globe is reporting that Obama has cut funding to Iranian human rights watchdog groups so as to not further antagonize the regime.
