“Drive Small Cars And Wait For The Wind”

The windy promises of a Democratic Congressional aide made last year. Unfortunately, wind power is not without real problems:

A blade on a wind turbine in Sheffield has broken in strong winds for the second time in 15 months.

Manufacturers of the 190ft high turbine, one of three owned by Sheffield University, are now investigating the damage at the site close to the city’s Parkway link road to the M1.

A blade on the same turbine was broken 15 months ago and residents who live close to the site at Catcliffe, near Rotherham, have expressed fears that they could pose a danger to local people.

Gee, I wonder why they would think that?

Of course, this is friendly energy, right? As in no problem for humans? Er, well, not exactly:

Longtime readers know my professional opinion about wind power – and it is professional. Unlike the sycophants, I actually work in the energy profession.

From that professional standpoint, I can tell you that if someone put an industrial wind turbine anywhere near my house, I would move. (And I would fight like all hell to keep it out of the neighborhood in the first place.)

Okay, why do the tri-pods from Steven Spielberg’s “War Of The Worlds” come to mind here?

BTW, isn’t it a medical/scientific fact that strobing light can bring on something similar to Epileptic Convulsions?

If Gitmo were in the middle of this wind turbine field the human rights groups would be bitching.

There’s a company in Washington state named Infinia that’s using a Stirling engine and a solar reflector to generate electricity. I think SES out of Scottsdale is doing it, too.

    Pretty interesting.

    What’s your take on that?
