Were were assured (as soon as election night in 2008) that Virginia had made a historic shift toward being blue – a new stronghold for Democrats. What is increasingly looking like a blowout for the Republican candidate for Virginia governor, Bob McDonnell, makes those pronouncements look a bit more like media cheerleading than actual fact:
A new poll from SurveyUSA finds Bob McDonnell (R) leading the Virginia gubernatorial race by 19 points with 59% of the vote — his highest tally in any general election poll (Oct. 17-19, 595 LV, MoE +/- 4%). The standout stat from the survey results is that 71% of independents support McDonnell.
McDonnell 59 (+5 vs. last poll, Oct. 5)
Deeds 40 (-3)
Und 1
This is an outlier – these are really high numbers compared to other polls. But even an eight point win would be a stunning – really stunning – number. And that is the lowest margin I have seen at this point.
No matter how they try to paint this, this is a stone disaster for Democrats. Regardless of how much media cheerleading you are inundated with by the Obamacentric press, the sane Democrats are hearing footsteps right now. They will be sacked if they stay their leftist course. Bank on it.
And that’s if the lowest number is correct. If the higher number is right, watch out. It just got even worse for the Dems.

What is more telling is the same survey asked about the Lt. Gov. and the Attorney General races as well. Even though I’m sure their name recog is much less, the Republicans lead by 14% and 15% in those as well.
This looks like an ABD (anybody but a Democrat) election.
The Old Dominion is the graveyard of Tyrants.
The great seal of Virginia shows Virtus, the goddess of virtue, dressed as a warrior. Her left foot rests on the chest of the figure of tyranny, who is lying on the ground. Under the figure is the state motto, “Sic Semper Tyrannis” or “Thus Always to Tyrants.” The seal was designed by George Wythe, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and was first adopted in 1776.
Yeah, but Bill C. was there today for his guy. Bill will carry the state, right?
Well, if Bill Clinton supports Deeds we’ve lost the pervert vote.
ACORN, which might have been around to bail out Deeds, is presently occupied trying to stay out of jail.
Some other good news (for me, perhaps, if not for other readers of this blog) is that Chris Christie, the GOP’s candidate for NJ governor, will probably lose. Christie has been running an anti-anti-tax campaign, where he dumps on his opponents’ ideas but is fuzzy on what he would do.
The most interesting aspect of that race is the fact that the highly unpopular Democrat incumbent (Corzine) has made only modest gains in the polls (most polls I have seen have him between 39% – 43%). Christie, by contrast, has fallen off the proverbial cliff because of his milquetoast “moderate Republican” campaign. An independent candidate has been taking Christie’s vote with a vigorous anti-property tax campaign – the sort of campaign Republicans used to run before they went all “bipartisan”.
A McDonnell win on November 3, coupled with a Christie loss, would be a much needed slap in the face of the left-wing GOP Establishment that is trying to move the party to the left of Obama. The message will be clear: the next time you dish up a “moderate”, make sure he or she is actually a moderate and not a Democrat-in-Republican-clothing.
And, when McDonnell wins handily, I will do what I can here in the Old Dominion to spread the message that the win is largely attributable to the strength of that thesis that the WaPo has been pushing so hard.
Nothing makes lefty heads explode like their paranoia over the impending fundie theocracy
TIMMEH (think “South Park”) Kaine won after a particularly bad campaign by Kilgore. Deeds seems to have acquired his campaign staff from Kilgore. the whole thrust of the advertising was “McDonnell wrote a bad, bad thing 20 years ago!” “McDonnell went to *Falwell’s* law school!”
The Washington Post wasn’t able to make it a “maccaca mment” for this Dem and he never, ever gave anyone a reason to vote *for* him.
Good riddance.
Poll after poll is showing the Independent voters abandoning the Democrats in droves.
