Scozzafava’s 15 minutes are about over. She’s on her way to the shadow world of disgraced politicians.

At best, she’s a footnote in the story of the Great Conservative Revival of 2009. Political turn-coats don’t remain long in the limelight, they don’t hang around soaking up gratitude for their acts of treachery. Turn-coats are an embarrassment to themselves, to those they betray, and to those they sully with tainted allegiance.

Turn-coats can never be fully trusted and everyone knows it and acts accordingly. Scozzafava will soon be anathema on both sides of the political divide, alone and shunned by former friends and neighbors. Honest and decent citizen do not want to be seen, let alone associated with damaged goods.

Like the acid reflux and lingering indigestion left over after a sleepless night purging bad fish, Scozzafava has reduced herself to an ugly and unpleasant episode best recalled as a foolish mistake not to be repeated.
