Losing The Left

Dana Milbank points out the obvious – and probably inevitable. Obama is now losing even the left.

Yet Moore is surely right about the disillusionment of Obama’s supporters. Even before the surge announcement, support among liberals for Obama’s Afghanistan policy had dropped 22 points since July, to 59 percent from 81 percent, according to a Post-ABC News poll. Overall liberal support for Obama had drifted down to 80 percent from 94 percent in the spring — and, given the noisy complaints from the left last week, that number seems likely to fall further.

It was bound to happen eventually. Obama had become to his youthful supporters a vessel for all of their liberal hopes. They saw him as a transformational figure who would end war, save the Earth from global warming, restore the economy — and still be home for dinner. They lashed out at anybody who dared to suggest that Obama was just another politician, subject to calculation, expediency and vanity like all the rest.

The media turned a blind eye to Obama early signals of his complete lack of any real scruples and his “flexibility” on campaign promises, even as many of us were pointing it out. The messiah has feet of clay. What a surprise.

Obama has already been losing support – rapidly – from independents. He never had much support from the right. If he loses the left – and he appears to be doing so – this is going to be a very long three years for this nation. The question is, how much damage has already been done – and how much more in the next three years.

    Independents voting for Obama.

Oxymoronic or schizophrenic, either way the Independent voter is dazed and confused; it is no wonder Independents were easily bamboozled by the greatest con game ever played.

The Obamanation is big alright, but come on! There are many worthy candidates for the title of Greatest Con Ever, some big and some not so big, but great nevertheless. Mostly it depends on the observer’s point of view.

Any number of religious figures and belief systems throughout recorded history and stretching back into dim antiquity make my short list, the heliocentric solar system, Marxism, Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone assassin, JFK’s Camelot, J Edgar Hoover’s files, all manner of Vitamin Pill scams, idiot exercise machines, calorie counting, Piltdown Man, Global Whoring, Endangered species, representative government, the UN’s collective security, Whole Life insurance, labor unions, Social Security, healthcare reform, objective newspapers and TV shows, and so many more.

The Left is grumbling but I think they will be there when he needs them. Where else can they go?
