I use that word intentionally. The “stimulus” bill has been used as a way to funnel money directly to Democratic congressional districts while short changing Republican-leaning districts.
Additionally, Mercatus found that stimulus funds were not disbursed geographically with any special regard for low-income Americans. “We find no correlation between economic indicators and stimulus funding. Preliminary results find no statistically significant effect of unemployment, median income or mean income on stimulus funds allocation,” said the report.
The Mercatus Center analysis also found that Democratic congressional districts received on average almost double the funding of Republican congressional districts. Republican congressional districts received on average $232 million in stimulus funds while Democratic districts received $439 million on average.
“We found that there is a correlation [relating to the partisanship of congressional districts],” de Rugy said. Her regression analysis found that stimulus funds are expected to decrease by 24.19 percent if a district is represented by a Republican.
“During the appropriations process, you’re not surprised to see the Democrats are getting more money, but in this case a lot of the money we’re looking at is going through HUD [Department of Housing and Urban Development], or Department of Education, Department of Transportation etc. and they’re following a formula,” she said. “But the correlation exists, and not only does it exist — when you look at how much money we’re talking about, it’s a pretty big deal.”
It is not just a big deal, it is a criminal matter. These numbers are too big to ignore. Funds are being funneled to one party. This is not how one expects the American government to behave – like a banana republic. A particularly sleazy banana republic at that.

Well, now, THAT’s just it, isn’t it? Aside from the monsterous monstrous bureaucracy and crippling taxation ObamaCare would create (rationing and long waits also), my biggest problem with it is the loss of privacy that everyone seems to be overlooking and even accepting. Right now when you go into a doctor’s office you sign a privacy form HIPAA, which insures the patient/doctor privacy pact. If as proposed YOUR medical history and records go into some national data base you no longer have ANY privacy. The idea of a hacker gaining access to your private medical info is bad enough (and Social Security, the Pentagon, and the VA HAVE had their data hacked), but that kind of information in the hands of a government obviously in the throws of this Big Brother orgasm, and not even really at full climax yet, scares the living hell out of me.
I keep thinking with everything this Congress and Administration are doing and are planning on doing (including the topic of this thread): what if it were a republican administration and majority Congress doing all of this? I think back to the Bush years when the republicans did have control of both houses of Congress and the White House and the huge stink made over creating a Dept. of Homeland Security, the Patriot Act, and any number of things done post terror attack on our soil (leaked to the front pages of the NYTimes, no less) … none of which directly or even indirectly effected any American (or the MSM would have been ALL over it) … only the monitoring of suspected terrorists outside the country in contact with others within.
Criminal eh? I always thought it was a case of “to the victor goes the spoils’. It’s called buying votes. What law is Congress breaking by directing money to favored constituencies? It doesn’t mean I like it, but this has been going on at least since FDR.
Yes, it’s criminal when Obama borrows and spends billions we don’t have in order to “stimulate” our economy, but uses the money not for the stated purpose but to reward favored districts and constituencies for supporting his electoral ambitions.
That’s an example of criminal misbehavior in office and it’s called malfeasance.
