Rahm Emanuel offers a “apology” for his choice of words. But not to the people he called his choice name. Or the other people who he offended. I rather doubt his apology was sincere or meant to do anything but try to limit his own political damage.
Click over, I won’t even excerpt this one.
Longtime readers know that I have a brother with Down Syndrome.
My brother is considerably more decent, honorable, polite and has a better vocabulary than Mr. Emanuel.
By a very large margin.

C’mon Rahm, don’t sugarcoat it, tell us what you really think of us.
Given the choice, I prefer the coarse truth from Emanuel to the soaring lies we get from the 0. He lets you know right where you stand. No beating around the bush.
However, it seems an odd strategy for winning over wavering dems. I don’t believe diplomacy is his strong suit.
Rahm apologized to the developmentally disabled for comparing them to Democrats. I can understand why the DD were insulted by the comparison.

Don’t recall if we’ve ever exchanged this before but I have a 10 yr old daughter gifted with DS also. I say ‘gifted’ because she is beautiful and bright and very much a typical pre-teen following in her older sisters’ footsteps (HEH!)
I posted this comment someplace else but will clean it up a bit for your site:
As a parent with a Down Syndrome 10 yr old daughter I have a couple some points …
1) I really don’t get worked up over the “R” word, but that’s for individuals to ponder to their own tolerance. I personally don’t use the word.
2) what does get me is Emanuel’s use of the word preceding “retarded” … F***ING retarded. You see, to me at least, that meant he DID use the word as a curse word (retarded). The word retarded in and of itself is a clinical term that has morphed from a description of a lack in mental capabilities to anyone another person just can’t, himself, mentally deal with. For Rahm to put ‘f***ing’ before the word dragged the term down to the level of completely useless and unworthy. (if any of that makes sense as I try to put it into words)
3) Emanuel is a f***ing coward. I have YET to see HIM come before the cameras and apologize for the idiocy (hey, guess what? I understand this remark came during some non-public meeting or somesuch. Poor Rahm’s been Trent Lotted, eh?) Anyhow, the closest but no cigar moment I saw was some flunky of Bobby Gibbs’s issuing the apology on his behalf. That dog won’t hunt, shitheels.
4) The fact that the Kennedy clone of the Special Olympics accepted (although I’m to understand he is now not accepting) Rahm’s apology is bulls***t. My kid isn’t a member of the Special Olympics. MOST special needs kids and adults aren’t. Get your f***ng Chicago ballerina weasel a** out before the cameras and apologize or just admit you meant the insult completely. Man-up, Rahm, you evil d**k-hole.
I just posted on this again, Maggie. You are mentioned.
I’m sure your daughter has a better vocabulary and conducts herself with more decorum than Rahm does.
