Via Ed Morrisey at Hot Air, Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman’s crisp definition of Barack Obama:
“I guess you’ve all seen the president’s remarks or read about the president’s remarks, well I’ve got some remarks of my own. I was back in Washington, D.C. about two weeks ago, going up and down the halls of the capitol telling people about our economy here, trying to get them to be sympathetic to what we’re trying to accomplish, then I have to read what President Obama said.
“He has a real psychological hang up about the entertainment capitol of the world. An apology won’t be acceptable this time, I don’t know where his vendetta comes from but we’re not going to let him make his bones by lambasting Las Vegas, that’s why (the press) is here today.
“He didn’t learn his lesson the first time, but when he hurt our economy by his ill conceived rhetoric, we didn’t think it would happen again, but now that it has I want to assure you, when he comes I’ll do everything I can to give him the boot back to Washington and to visit his failures back there.
“I gotta tell you this, everybody says I shouldn’t say it, but I gotta tell you the way it is. This president is a real slow learner.”
If Obama turns Las Vegas against Harry Reid, Reid is not political toast come November, he is vaporized carbon. (A point Ed also makes in slightly different terms.)
Of course, Obama is a slow learner. Look at the doubling down on his agenda in the face of unthinkable electoral losses. The Democrats lost in New Jersey and Massachusetts for heaven’s sake. The question now is how slowly do the rest of the Democrats in Washington learn? Do they strap on a Pelosi Mark I Policy Parachute and continue their campaign to make the Little Bighorn look like a stunning victory?
I’m guessing that enough Democrats will strap one on and hurtle out the door of the plane because they simply have no other ideas. All they know how to do is spend other people’s money. They have no clue whatsoever how to make things better in this country or how to heal the economy.
The plan was to pass their pork-laden payoff bill to reward all their favorite constituencies, wait for a natural rebound in the economy and claim credit. They never for a moment considered that their own policies would continue to wreak havoc on the economy and cause more damage than could be absorbed. They never for a moment considered that the average American voters would be paying attention to the spending, the deficits and the sleazy back room dealing of the “elites”.
Surprise. We have been.
Heck, we’ll be happy to strap one of those parachutes on to each and every one of them. Maybe two parachutes.
One can never be too safe, after all.
I think that comment (“slow learner”) was really funny in the whole Rahm Emanuel context. Now “retarded” was a nice way of saying “slow” which was the word used before the more “refined” word “retarded” was introduced. By calling Obama a “slow learner”, he basically called him retarded. Which gets an entirely different spin, and much greater chuckle factor in the context of the recent Emanuel remarks.
There is something seriously wrong with Obama. He is not sane. And we are in trouble.
