He deserves full honors for his military service. That’s about it.
I’d say Hilaire Belloc’s “Epitaph on the Politician Himself” adequately expresses the moment.
He is now, as Barack Obama might say, a Marine Corpse Man.
State law in PA requires the Governor (Ed Rendell) to set a date for a special election within 10 days of the official vacancy announcement. Since PA already has federal primaries scheduled for May 18th that’s the most likely date for the vote to fill the PA-12th district seat.
Look for a very hot contest. Democrats will go all out to keep from losing yet another high profile election.
