Devil Baby

Barack Obama’s planned appearance on The View is drawing criticism from – wait for it – Democrats:

Speaking on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell suggested the ABC talk-show – which often directs its focus on tabloid stories and celebrity mishaps – may not be an appropriate forum for a sitting President of the United States.

“I think the president should be accessible, should answer questions that aren’t pre-screened, but I think there should be a little bit of dignity to the presidency,” Rendell said. (Video via Matt Lewis at Politics Daily)

Rendell, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, also likened The View to the Jerry Springer Show – the famed program that has long spotlighted dysfunctional family situations.

“I think there are some shows – I wouldn’t put him on Jerry Springer either,” said Rendell.
“It is different a little bit. But I think the President of the United States has to go on serious shows.”

I really can’t believe I have an opportunity to link to this gem from Mark Knopfler, thanks to our increasingly un-presidential president!

Thanks for the music clip, I was playing MK only yesterday at White Trash beach in SW Florida. The first time I heard “Sultans,” I was driving on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley, the music coming over the car radio was stunning, it hit me so hard I pulled over at a record store and bought the vinyl, along with the Evita sound track, wore them both out in short order.

Obama’s appearance on the View is a double oh-two-fer. He owes Oprah for her support in 2006. Now, her ratings are tanking (Judge Judy doubles Obrah’s numbers) and she could use a boost from the Big Spender-in-Chief, maybe pull in some of those limousine liberal ladies with free time to watch Oprah on TV.

OTOH, Obama also needs a boost, his numbers are tanking too, so an opportunity to schmooze with Oprah’s loyal female audience of mature women, largely white, represents an opportunity for him to suck-up to a demographic which has been walking away from him in favor of accepting invitations to TEA Party events.
