Fred Barnes on the increasingly desperate Democrats running for Congress this year:
The Democratic strategy in the 2010 election is simple: Change the subject. And given the subject on everyone’s mind, who can blame them? That subject is the economy and related matters like spending, the deficit, debt, and President Obama. These are the last things Democrats want to talk about.
Instead they’d like to reduce each race for the House and Senate to the personal level. Their aim is to emphasize the individual flaws of Republican candidates. In the Democratic game plan, the economy and national issues are taboo.
This microstrategy is one of pure desperation. It’s all that’s left when macro-political trends are going against you. Indeed, Democrats start with two strikes against them. A midterm election is usually a referendum on the president’s performance, and this year’s is no exception. And the most important measure of the president’s success or failure is the condition of the economy.
Read the whole piece. It describes just how badly things are going for the left and their cheerleaders in the media (redundant, I know).
Notice that they really are not playing the blame Bush game all that much, either. The fact is that reminding Americans of the days of 5% unemployment and a deficit that was one third of what it has ballooned to under Obama and his merry maladroit munchkins is really a very bad idea right now. Especially with the specter of the Hindenburg Omen on Friday.
The fact is that the Democrats have controlled Congress since 2007 – when the economy first began to falter. One year after they took over, we had a bad crash. Three years into their misrule, we are looking at a brick wall hurtling towards us.
Some hope. Some change.
If you want hope, you better start thinking hard about changing things in Washington. What are you doing to make that change happen? Are you registered to vote? Are you fired up and ready to help get out the vote?
Get busy, folks.

Rather than allowing them to change the subject to talk about their local rival, the conversation should be about having a losing team in Washington and needing to steam clean the entire Congress. It starts with the local.
Democrats can duck and dodge all they want, this mid-term election is a referendum on Barack Obama’s policies and the Democrats in Congress who voted for them. It’s that simple and straight forward.
Every single Democrat on the ballot is a surrogate for Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pilosi, Barney Frank, Charlie Rangle, and Maxine Waters, et al.
