Son, Can You Play Me A Memory?

Piano Man was Billy Joel’s breakout hit ‘way back in the dark ages of 1973. It told the fictionalized story of Joel’s days performing at a piano bar in Los Angeles. All these years later, there’s a new piano bar in town – not in Los Angeles, but in the middle of Biscayne Bay:

A grand piano recently appeared on a sandbar in Biscayne Bay, about 200 yards from the Quayside condominiums off Northeast 107th Street. Whoever put it there placed it at the highest point of the sandbar so that it’s not underwater during high tide.

There are no plans to remove the piano since it isn’t a hazard to navigation. There is also no clue as to who put the instrument there or why.

Comments on the article page are actually pretty amusing.

I dread asking uncle Guido whether he’s been cleaning out the garage again, though.

There may be a hint of how it got there in this report. Keep an eye out for a music video featuring a piano on a sand bar….
