Pulling the Ladder Up Behind Them

I’ve lost a LOT of respect for Amazon in the past few weeks. And even more so after reading this from Hot Air.Jim DeMint has this just right.

Here’s Sen. Jim DeMint addressing Amazon’s change of heart at a hearing on the bill in the Senate Commerce Committee Wednesday. Key quote via Amanda Carpenter: “I’ve been here a long time and I’ve seen many businesses that used to be small, they grow. Then they use their political clout to come here, to advantage themselves and to erect barriers to entry for smaller companies.”

As Hot Air points out with a quote , Amazon is building warehouses in every state and will have to collect taxes since they will have a business presence in those states.

So they are trying to pull the ladder up behind them so nobody else can do what they’ve done.

Bah. A pox on them.

Wasn’t Amazon severing relations with “associates’ and threatening to close or not build facilities in states that were threatening them with sales tax compliance as recently as 12-18 mos ago?

Wonder what brought about the change in corporate thinking and how that debate played out?

If/when we are all required to pay online sales tax, that tax will reduce our disposable income accordingly, further depressing overall economic activity.

They decided to do same day delivery, so they are going to eliminate the small businesses who think Amazon is helping them.

Amazon is helping itself by destroying their competition.
