Be Your Own Poll Watcher

Make sure your vote counts for who you want to vote for.

Joan Stevens was one of several early voters at the polls on Monday. But when Stevens tried to cast her ballot for president, she noticed a problem.

Upon selecting “Mitt Romney” on the electronic touch screen, Barack Obama’s name lit up.

It took Stevens three tries before her selection was accurately recorded.

“You want to vote for who you want to vote for, and when you can’t it’s irritating,” Stevens said.

Interesting pattern. Three tries to make the machine record the vote correctly – again. If your state uses an optional paper ballot instead of the machines, it appears to be a good idea to avail yourself of that option. I intend to.

Regardless, act as your own election monitor. Watch what happens. Make sure your vote counts.

(Thanks to Feeblemind in comments for also sending this link- I had already found the link, too, but it is good that people are paying attention.)

What concerns me about these ‘honest mistakes’ is, what if what we are seeing is only the tip of the iceberg?

What if there are 100 machines tabulating Romney votes for 0bama, for every one discovered?

I hope people take your advice to heart Gaius. Indeed, I believe your readers will, but what about people that haven’t heard about this and don’t pay attention?

    It could make a difference.

These incidents fill me with a sense of foreboding.
