True. The trouble with these sorts of stories is the lack of specifics. I know why candidates (all candidates) speak so vaguely, but it will make any conclusion we make about what they say tentative at best.

I agree. None of this is bad. However, team Romney will have to do a hell of an education job to get people to see that getting rid of some of these deductions while lowering the base rate will benefit them. It isn’t intuitive.

I do like the idea of “consolidating” these departments, if only because Republican candidates like to talk about “getting rid” of departments but never seem to find a way to actually do it. Somehow I get the feeling that if Romney wins and tries to downsize the D. of Education the Democrats will suddenly discover a need for a “No Child Left Behind Part II”.

Romney also mentioned departments he would close or consolidate, specifically HUD, whose housing funds have been a hotbed of cronyism.

He may not have been my first choice, but, since he all but secured the nomination, I like a lot of what I’ve heard.

Obviously they were conflating celcius with farenheit… though I admit I dont know how anyone could write that sentence and not stop and say “Wait a minute. That CAN’T be right.”

But I’ll tell you what… I’d bet you anything they believe 100% in anthropogenic global warming.

You have to give them that they didn’t say which boiling point they are talking about. So it could be anywhere from -423.166F (hydrogen) to 8 720.6F (carbon).

But definitely a very dumb piece of reporting.

How could one even confuse boiling point with some other concept? How do you write, let alone read a sentence like that and not ask a question or two? How can two or more human minds be exposed to that before someone raises an eyebrow? How many neuro-toxins needs to be in our drinking water to explain this?

Wouldn’t higher taxes on energy encourage conservation?

Funny how they admit to using the tax system to punish bad behavior expecting to get less of it but deny that increased taxes on good behavior will have no effect on behavior.

Thanks to politics, words are losing all meaning. If simply having an opposing point of view now makes you a terrorist or a racist, what good is talking at all?

Someone opposes your bill? They’re a nazi. Someone wants to cut spending? Obviously they want to see old people and children dead. This kind of dialogue is ridiculous, and the people who employ it are ridiculous.

This is why America is in decline: we elect fools.

Nice to see you back Gaius. Glad you are working lots of hours. Much better than working none at all.

re the abysmal failure of the Corps: Perhaps you could post a link why this is so? I can only speculate that they waited too long to release water upstream this year in the face of a record snowpack but I have not followed the sequence of events.

Having said that I would venture to say the flooding would be much worse had the corps never built any flood protection anywhere along the Missouri. With limited resources it is hard to build a flood control system while not knowing how bad a worst case scenario can be.

O/T: I missed your blogging, hoping you would be commenting on the Fukishima disaster, as well as the EPA actions to shut down so many coal fired plants. I am wondering how close the proposed shutdowns would push us to the capacity of the grid?
